Summer of Success- connect parents, students, schools and community partners to enrich the summer experience of our students by instilling routine with rigorous academic support. This investment will provide nearly 500 Detroit high schoolers the opportunity to participate in the nonprofit's literacy program. General Motors recognizes the importance of supporting literacy, especially in Detroit, through a $1 million donation to the Beyond Basics' Be The Solution literacy campaign. The DPSCD Let's Read program is designed to support struggling readers in grades K-3. The program will train volunteers to work with student's unique needs as identified through literacy diagnostic assessments. Volunteers will work with a designated child in a one-on-one or small group setting and track their individual reading growth. The district has implemented i-Ready as our K-3 Initial Screener/ Diagnostic Reading Assessment. It provides the data-driven insights that classroom teachers and school and district administrators need to determine exactly where to focus their instructional time to ensure all students are successful on assessments with rigorous standards.
